The Jackson Church of Christ began with humble and faithful beginnings on July 3, 1955, when seventeen individuals gathered in the home of Marvin Williams in Jackson, Alabama, to worship together. Of those present, eleven were members, and a visiting preacher, Billy Hall, delivered the first sermon. What started as a small group meeting in a living room quickly grew, moving first to another home and then, later that same year, to a modest service station that was purchased and remodeled by the congregation to serve as their first meeting place.

As the congregation continued to grow, so did their vision. In 1958, a building fund was established through sacrificial giving, and by April of 1960, construction began on a dedicated church building. With the exception of one hired carpenter, the work was carried out by members of the congregation—men who gave their time, energy, and skills to build a place for worship. The building was completed in late 1960, marking a significant milestone in the church’s history.

From those early days to the present, the Jackson Church of Christ has remained committed to simple, New Testament Christianity—seeking to worship God in spirit and truth, to grow in faith, and to serve the community. While much has changed over the years, the heart of the congregation remains the same: a group of Christians striving to follow Christ, encourage one another, and share the gospel with others.
